NEW DELHI: Changing its stand on ‘Padmavati’, Shri Rajput Karni Sena (SRKS), which has been spearheading nationwide protests+ against Sanjay Leela Bhansali‘s controversial film, on Wednesday said the movie should be shown to the erstwhile royal family of Mewar, and if they found nothing objectionable, the protests would be withdrawn. So far, SRKS has been insisting that the film should be screened before its representatives.
Significantly, the SRKS’s statement comes just four days after Arvind Singh Mewar, who is one of the direct descendants of the 14th century Chittor ruler Rawal Ratan Singh, told TOI he was ready to mediate to resolve the ‘Padmavati’ issue if Bhansali so desired. A SRKS statement said: “Freedom of expression in terms of art cannot be tolerated when feelings of millions of people hang in jeopardy.
“We are not against art, or any filmmaker who wants to narrate a period drama. But tampering with historical facts and defaming Rajput glory is something that cannot be ignored,” said Kalvi.
